PD201 Job Search Strategies 1 credit<br />

This course covers the techniques necessary to conduct a successful job search, from targeting potential<br />

employers to effectively utilizing the "tools" <strong>of</strong> the process: resumes, cover letters, portfolios, and<br />

interviews. The emphasis is to empower students so that they are equipped to conduct a self-directed<br />

job search. Graded pass/fail.<br />

CO151 Sports Science 2 credits<br />

Basic physiological and mechanical aspects <strong>of</strong> sport are presented to provide the student with the skill<br />

necessary to analyze human performance in a variety <strong>of</strong> athletic activities. The course is designed to<br />

enhance coaching effectiveness and athletic performance by increasing student understanding <strong>of</strong><br />

exercise physiology, biomechanics, and kinesiology. A background in human anatomy and physiology<br />

is recommended.<br />

CO152 Theory <strong>of</strong> Coaching 2 credits<br />

This introductory course is designed to explore the fundamentals <strong>of</strong> coaching while laying the<br />

foundation for practical application at the junior high, high school or college level. In addition to<br />

establishing a coaching philosophy, students develop a master/seasonal plan for their sport including<br />

daily practice plans. Pre-season, in-season, and post-season topics are explored.<br />

CO153 Prevention and Care <strong>of</strong> Athletic Injuries 1 credit<br />

This lecture and laboratory course focuses on the prevention, etiology, recognition, initial treatment,<br />

and rehabilitation <strong>of</strong> specific athletic injuries and illnesses. Students identify common signs and<br />

symptoms associated with athletic injuries and develop taping and wrapping skills to prevent re-injury.<br />

A background in human anatomy is strongly recommended. Prerequisite: CO156.<br />

CO154 Psychology <strong>of</strong> Coaching 2 credits<br />

This course explores the psychological parameters which influence behavior and performance in<br />

sports. This is an introductory course into the world <strong>of</strong> sport psychology and positive team building in<br />

which students learn to apply reinforcement principles and motivational techniques to enhance sport<br />

performance. Students evaluate their communication skills and leadership style.<br />

CO155 Field Exploration: Coaching 1-3 credits<br />

This course provides an opportunity to observe, and in many cases, contribute to the coaching <strong>of</strong> a<br />

junior high, senior high, or college/university athletic team. Under the guidance and direction <strong>of</strong> a<br />

mentor coach, the student coach observes and practices many <strong>of</strong> the responsibilities and tasks involved<br />

in coaching. Graded pass/fail.<br />

CO156 CPR/AED for the Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Rescuer and First Aid 1 credit<br />

This course is designed to prepare students as American Red Cross pr<strong>of</strong>essional rescuers, those whose<br />

duty to act in cases <strong>of</strong> breathing or cardiac emergencies. Completion <strong>of</strong> this course authorizes the<br />

student as an American Red Cross for the Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Rescuer for one year and fulfills most CPR/AED<br />

requirements for health pr<strong>of</strong>essionals and lifeguard certification programs.<br />
