B. Performance Studies:<br />
Applied Lessons: minimum <strong>of</strong> seven semesters <strong>of</strong> private lessons taken for credit on a major instrument<br />
or voice.<br />
Ensembles: minimum <strong>of</strong> seven semesters <strong>of</strong> participation in one or more vocal or instrumental<br />
ensembles.<br />
*MU130 Music Fundamentals and MU131 Music Fundamentals II, or equivalent pr<strong>of</strong>iciency, are<br />
prerequisites for MU160 Music Theory I. All students take an initial placement exam to determine theory<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>iciency.<br />
Liturgical Music (61-63 credits + Theology <strong>of</strong> Ministry minor):<br />
The liturgical music major prepares students to pursue a career as a lay music minister in a parish or<br />
similar setting. The major is <strong>of</strong>fered collaboratively between the music and theology departments.<br />
The program includes a specially designed theology <strong>of</strong> ministry minor, which gives students a solid<br />
foundation for lay ministry employing the musical skills and knowledge learned in the music core and<br />
associated music courses.<br />
Music Major (44-52 credits):<br />
The music major is a general liberal arts curriculum for the student with a strong interest in music who<br />
does not plan to pursue a performance career. The student may wish to continue their education in<br />
a specific masters degree program or pursue a different career option. If the student is planning<br />
to complete both the B.A. in music and the Master <strong>of</strong> Arts in Instruction degree leading to teaching<br />
licensure, the B.A. in music electives must include all <strong>of</strong> the required music education course work.<br />
A. - B. Music Core<br />
C. Minimum <strong>of</strong> six music electives credits (that may reflect individual interest and career goals).<br />
Music Education Major (68-70 credits + education course work):<br />

This program is designed to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> students who plan for a career in music teaching in the<br />
public or private schools. This comprehensive degree program meets the State <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong> licensure<br />
requirements for the music education K-12 classroom and vocal music, or the K-12 classroom and<br />
instrumental music areas. Please be advised that meeting the requirements <strong>of</strong> both the music major<br />
