Dear SLUH Moms,
Welcome to another exciting year that is SLUH Mothers’ Club 2011-2012. Once again, we have many
wonderful events scheduled this year. The 84 th annual SLUHlard Market Card Party is slated for
10/16/11. The 12 th annual Mother-Son Mass and Lunch will again be held at the America’s Center on
10/23/11. Back by popular demand the Mother-Son Trivia Night will be held on 3/3/12. These are a few
of the activities sponsored by the Mothers’ Club. The success of each of our events requires the
participation of many moms. Included in this mailing you will find a copy of our program highlights and
a volunteer brochure. Consider this opportunity to serve and become a part of the adventure. As moms
we encourage our sons to try new activities during their SLUH years. Likewise, I challenge each of you
to share your talents with our community of moms. You will discover how the Mothers’ Club enhances
what is SLUH TRADITION!

Join us for the 84th Annual Mothers' Club SLUHlard Party! It is an afternoon filled with new
and old friends, where you can just shop and socialize or play a rousing game of cards,

items to donate, they can be delivered to the SLUH switchboard using the label below or simply marked "Card Party 2011"
Donation Opportunities

We are looking for 6 extraordinary items such as Spa treatment, Waterford, Lladro, Theatre tickets,
SLUH items, etc. Table Favors - 600 to 800 bags need favors, so we need 25, 50, 100 or more of any
like items to make these bags exciting - health and beauty samples, discount coupons, pens, pencils,
notepads, company giveaways, wrapped candy, etc. White Elephant - Any yard sale type items such
as toys, books, knick-knacks, kitchen, household etc. No clothing, please!

HOPE FOR HONDURAS BABY SHOWER
Since 1995, SLUH students and Mr. Merriott travel to Honduras for Senior Project.
They spend 28 days during the month of January in the Nutrition Center built with funds
collected from the SLUH community. Children from birth through 5 years stay at the Center
as long as needed to restore their nutritional health. Supplies and funds are needed each
year to continue this wonderful project. This is where you, Moms of SLUH, can help.
Please send needed items (see list below) during the week of 9/19-9/23 to the SLUH
switchboard (your son can drop it off). The weather in Honduras is usually warm, so summer
clothing (which is now on sale) is needed. All items should be new and sized to fit newborns
thru 5 year-olds. Everything we collect will travel with the boys and Mr. Merriott, so we
cannot accept strollers, cribs, disposable diapers, or other bulky items. Please mark your
donations “SLUH Honduran Project-Attention Janet Lawder”
NEEDED ITEMS INCLUDE

Cloth diapers (pre-folded preferred, lots needed) Over the counter pain meds

RID/Lice shampoo and baby shampoo

Crib sheets (many needed) Shoes, baby to 5 years, sizes 2-6
Bar soap~ Ivory for baby baths and bars for hand washing
If you don’t have time to shop, a cash or check donation is greatly appreciated. Checks
should be made out to SLUH HONDURAN PROJECT and left at the switchboard, or sent to
Susan Burke. Last year our “shower” generously helped fund the nutrition center and
provided much needed clothing for the children. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Menu Planning and Grocery Shopping
Beginning this school year, SLUH Freshman will go twice a
week to shelters to cook and serve food to the homeless.
SLUH Campus Ministry needs parents to create menus and
shop for food. The school will pay for the food and has a fridge
and freezer for storage.
This is a flexible opportunity to help serve not only the SLUH
Community but the homeless of Saint Louis.
