While students are the main focus of the counseling program, counselors
support the entire school community by consulting with parents, faculty, and
administrators.
The program is carried out through individual and group counseling as well as
consultation and referral.
At SLUH a student will have the same counselor for all four years. The
advantages of this format are numerous. The assigned counselor has four years
to develop a relationship with his or her students and will know them well by
the time the college planning process formally begins. That same counselor
will meet with each of his or her students' parents in both freshman and junior
years. This model provides continuity in the relationship between counselor
and student and helps the counselor more effectively assist the student in the
development of curriculum planning and monitoring academic progress.
