Reported as used to make a medicinal tea by Caribs (Hodge<br />

and Taylor, 1957556) but misidentified (Hodge 3376) as<br />

Rivina humilis. Adjanohoun et al. (1985:157, pl. 123) reported<br />

similar medical uses.<br />

Perennial herb to 1.5 m with garlic odor; achenes armed with<br />

4 deflexed awns, appressed to axis.<br />

Neotropics; in <strong>Dominica</strong> a weed in disturbed lowlands:<br />

Clarke Hall (Chambers 2708, Ernst 1690, Stern & Wusshausen<br />

2392), Colihaut (Wilbur 8120), Petit Coulibri (Whitefoord<br />

4660), Salybia (Hodge 3194).<br />

Used by Caribs as a charm and medicine (Hodge and Taylor,<br />

1957556). Adjanohoun et al. (1985157, pl. 124) reported<br />

similar uses.<br />
