Lesser Antilles (Montserrat to St. Lucia); in places common<br />

on <strong>Dominica</strong>, 450-800 m: Freshwater Lake vicinity (Beard<br />

235, Hodge 1127, 1879, Nicolson 1957, 4146, Smith 10234,<br />

Wusshausen & Ayensu 311, Whitefoord 3863), summit <strong>of</strong><br />

Mome Negres Marrons (Hodge 1079), Sylvania (Hodge 549),<br />

Inflorescence f umbellate; leaves dimorphic, distichous,<br />

acute on fertile branches; central flowers aborted, each<br />

with a pitcher-shaped nectary (“bract”) long-decurrent on<br />

pedicel; fertile flowers with calyptrate corolla . .....<br />

Inflorescence racemose, elongated; leaves monomorphic,<br />

spiralled, obtuse to retuse; flowers all fertile, each with a<br />

ladle-shaped nectary attached to pedicel; corolla lobes free<br />

(at least apically).<br />

2. Raceme axis to 20 cm long; pedicels to 0.5 cm, scarcely<br />

longer than flowers: nectary inserted at flower base;<br />

Martinique and St. Lucia; apparently rare in interior forests<br />
