Leaves lance-linear to oblong, k falcate, 3-5-veined;<br />
inflorescence to 3 cm long, type la or le; young fruits<br />
pyriform, drying with a golden sheen visible under lox lens,<br />
sepals closed.<br />
Trinidad; new record for <strong>Dominica</strong>: Sylvania (Wilbur 7713).<br />

rotund, pinnately veined; inflorescences strongly hexastichous<br />
to 5 cm long, type lb; fruits white, with closed sepals.<br />
From Brazil through West Indies to Mexico; new record for<br />
<strong>Dominica</strong>: Pointe Lolo (Ernst 1171). On Richeria grands.<br />

Bois capitaine.<br />
A species distinguished by bearing > one pair <strong>of</strong> bracts<br />
between leaves, <strong>of</strong>ten with inflorescences; leaves large,<br />
palmately veined; inflorescence to 6 cm long, triads or five<br />
(type la); fruits globose, yellow to orange and rough, sepals<br />
open.<br />
Northern South America to Guadeloupe; apparently frequent<br />
in wet interior <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dominica</strong>: Fond Figues River (Ernst 1583),<br />
Mome Micotrin (Hodge 2085), Pont Cass6 (Ernst 1202, Wilbur<br />
7836), Sylvania (Hodge 1439), Syndicate (Whitefoord 4370).<br />
On Sloanea sp. and Licania ternatensis.<br />

Stems minutely glandular-papillate; leaves small (4 cm<br />
long); inflorescence short (4 cm long), flowers in triads, the<br />
lower 2 being pistillate, so fruiting inflorescence appears<br />
tetrastichous; fruits prominently warty, white to orange, sepals<br />
erect.<br />
Brazil to Panama, scattered in Antilles; apparently a new<br />
record for <strong>Dominica</strong> but rather frequent along dry west coast:<br />
Badineau Estate (Hodge 2231,2233), Batali River (Ernst 1640,<br />
Websrer 13176), Pointe Ronde (Ernst 1569), West Cabrit<br />
(Smith 10315). On Zanthoxylum spinifex, Eugenia ligustrina.<br />
Seen on W. Cabrit on Croton (Nicolson!).<br />
One specimen, Hodge 1946 from the wet interior (Boiling<br />
Lake), was redetermined as Dendrophthora.<br />

Stems with bracts between nodes; leaves 6-12 cm x 2-3 cm,<br />
venation pinnate but obscure; inflorescences erect, type la or in<br />
triads; fruits ovoid, yellow to orange, drying wrinkled, sepals<br />
stiffly erect.<br />
Widespread in neotropics; in wet interior <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dominica</strong>:<br />
South Chiltem (Ernst 1107), Syndicate (Wasshausen & Ayensu<br />
354). The Emst collection is on Stylogyne lateriflora, the other<br />
said to be on Dacryodes excelsa. These are the first collections<br />
from <strong>Dominica</strong> since Ramage collected it in 1888.<br />

Young stems quadrangular; leaves with obscure venation;<br />
inflorescence type la, Id, le (rarely solitary); fruits globose,<br />
yellow to orange or reddish, rather elongate, <strong>of</strong>ten papillate<br />
around top, sepals erect.<br />
Most <strong>of</strong> Antilles (not Cuba) into Venezuela and Panama;<br />
commonly collected along dry west coast, occasionally<br />
elsewhere (Rosalie) in <strong>Dominica</strong>: Cabrits (Ernst 1180, Hodge<br />
650), Cocoa Centre (Nicolson 1862), Gabriel (Wilbur 8280),<br />
Grand Savanne (Hodge 3784), Mero Valley (Ember 917),<br />
Milton (Hodge 2521), Pointe Ronde (Chambers 2661, Ernst<br />
1572), Rosalie (Ernst 1365), Salisbury (Wilbur 8113), below<br />
Syndicate (Whitefoord 4321).<br />
Flowering material collected in January-May, young fruit in<br />
June-August and the only specimen in ripe fruit was collected<br />
in late October. On Diospyros revoluta, Zanthoxylum, and<br />
Calliandra tergemina.
