Chiltern (Hodge 1485), Sylvania (Cooper 9).<br />
Sometimes confused with Mursypiunthes, q.v.<br />
Caribs use this in a ritual hunting bath (Hodge and Taylor,<br />
1957502). Adjanohoun et al. (1982113, pl. 80) reported<br />
several medicinal uses.<br />

Erect, suffiutescent herb to 2 m; heads 2-2.5 cm in diameter;<br />
tube <strong>of</strong> fruiting calyx 6-7 mm long, teeth puberulent; peduncle<br />
2-6 cm long.<br />
Neotropics; in lowlands <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dominica</strong>: Clarke Hall (Chambers<br />
2697).<br />
This and H. lunceoluta are easily and <strong>of</strong>ten confused because<br />
<strong>of</strong> their habit similarity.<br />
Keller and Armbruster (1989) gave an account <strong>of</strong> the<br />
pollination <strong>of</strong> this species by eumenid wasps in Panama. There<br />
is an explosive stamen release as a petal lobe is 3ripped.”<br />

in <strong>Dominica</strong> at mid-elevations: En Haut Jean (Nicolson<br />

Suffrutescent herb to 2 m; leaves rounded at base; fruiting<br />
calyx tube to 4 mm long, with a tuft <strong>of</strong> white hairs in the throat,<br />
teeth puberulent; flowers each subtended by a persistent, linear<br />
bracteole.<br />
Pantropic weed; occasional in <strong>Dominica</strong>: La Chaudiere<br />
(Hodge 3622), Pointe Ronde (Hodge 2645, Chambers 2656),<br />
Syndicate (Whitefoord 4465).<br />
Adjanohoun et al. (1985:115, pl. 81) reported an infusion<br />
used against fever.<br />

Erect, pubescent, suffrutescent herb to 1.5 m; leaves f<br />

mm long, spreading; inflorescence few-flowered, on 0.5- 1.5<br />
cm pedicel from the axil <strong>of</strong> a leaf-like bract; bracteoles<br />
apparently quickly deciduous.<br />
Neotropics; on <strong>Dominica</strong>: sine loc. (Curator, Botanic<br />

Used as a tea.<br />
