Big screen, small energy consumption: Save
energy with Sharp’s new TV line-up
Contrary to common perception that Iarge flat-screen television sets must be power hungry, the
new AQUOS series TVs from Sharp are anything but. In fact, these giants are true energy
savers, despite breathtaking screen diagonals of 60 to 80 inches (152 to 203 centimetres). Best
of all, there is no compromise on Sharp’s award-winning picture quality, striking colours or
extensive multimedia features.
Europe, April 2012. The bigger the hungrier? Not with Sharp: The new BIG TV models from the
AQUOS series not only captivate with almost life-sized pictures in striking quality, they also boast
extra-low energy consumption. Even the 80 inch giant (203 centimetres) LC-80LE845E, by far the
biggest LCD TV on the market in Europe right now, meets the strict requirements of Energy
Efficiency Class A++. In real terms, that means: with a per-annum electricity consumption of just
182 kWh, this TV titan requires no more energy than much smaller LCD sets. The main reason is
the full-LED backlighting: instead of illuminating the entire screen, with this technology, only the
pixels that are required for the momentary image are supplied with power. Over time, this
technological leap forward has a big positive effect on the power bill. And Sharp appliances also
offer numerous Eco functions that reduce power usage even further; for example, the automatic
brightness adjustment that constantly optimises backlighting intensity. This not only improves
imaging performance, it also saves energy. ECO picture adjustment is also designed to reduce
power consumption, adapting the backlighting automatically to the brightness of the picture and
surroundings, so it uses much less electricity in the dark.
"Big screen, small energy consumption: this is the philosophy behind our latest AQUOS series
TVs. They are a prime example of Sharp’s environmental commitment, outlined in our ‘Green
Strategy’. Alongside their outstanding energy efficiency, we have also paid great attention to
reducing materials used in the production and packaging of these TV sets, and further improving
recyclability." explains Philipp Schmidt, Product Manager Consumer Electronics at Sharp
Electronics.
We save on energy, but not on quality or features.
As light as these Sharp big screens are on energy use, they are all the more generous on picture
quality and features. Thanks to full-LED backlighting and 100Hz technology, they captivate with
striking sharpness and high-contrast pictures in brilliant colours, which allow every detail to be
displayed on the big screen. The long list of outstanding features also guarantee a fully
immersive multimedia experience: for example, with the Smart-TV platform AQUOS NET+, the
viewer has access to over 50 apps, including YouTube, the media libraries of numerous TV
