January 2014 Housing for First Term DVM <strong>St</strong>udents:<br />

All first term students, with few exceptions, are required to live on campus. Entering students have the opportunity to contract their housing for<br />

two consecutive terms. <strong>St</strong>udents who contract for both terms are guaranteed campus housing for both spring and fall 2014 [billing for the second<br />

term will take place in the spring]. <strong>St</strong>udents who contract only for their first term must enter a housing lottery in the fall if they wish to live on<br />

campus for their second term.<br />

Married students with children may be exempt with authorization from the housing <strong>of</strong>fice. Off-campus housing information is available from the<br />

Housing Coordinator and the SGU housing site.<br />

The <strong>University</strong> reserves the right to require students to live on campus for the basic science years. The entering student housing form is a<br />

contractual agreement subject to the <strong>University</strong>’s Housing Cancellation Policy.<br />

It is recommended that students leave pets at home for the first term in order to minimize stress on themselves and on their animals during this<br />

transition period. If you choose to bring your pet(s) you will be exempt from on campus housing with authorization from the housing <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />

Please refer to the pet permit package for important details.<br />

<strong>St</strong>udents entering the <strong>Doctor</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Veterinary</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> in January 2014 will be housed on the True Blue Campus*<br />

Our dorms at the True Blue campus are centrally air conditioned. There are laundry facilities conveniently located on each floor. A cleaning<br />

service is provided two days a week. Electricity is both 120 and 220 volts.<br />

Term 1, January 2014: Double occupancy with kitchenette:<br />

These are studios with a bedroom area, kitchenette area and bathroom. (Upper Campus electricity is 220 volts; Lower Campus electricity is both 120<br />

and 220 volts)<br />

Term 2, August 2014: Single Occupancy, Three <strong>St</strong>udents to a Suite<br />

These are suites consisting <strong>of</strong> three single bedrooms, one common bathroom and a common kitchen area. (Lower Campus electricity is both<br />

120 and 220 volts)<br />

US $4,588/term<br />

Married with kitchenette:<br />

Limited availability for Term 1 only. These accommodations are larger than the single with kitchenette and have a queen size bed. There<br />

are laundry facilities within the building. (Upper Campus, electricity 220 volts)<br />

US$7,564/term<br />

The dormitories will <strong>of</strong>ficially open on January 9, 2014. <strong>St</strong>udents are expected to arrive on campus in time for mandatory orientation<br />

commencing on January 15. <strong>St</strong>udents are expected to vacate their rooms no later than two days after the posting <strong>of</strong> results <strong>of</strong> the Academic<br />

Progress Committee meetings scheduled for May 22, 2014.<br />

Admission@sgu.edu. Roommates will be assigned and you will be notified to your SGU email account in December. Roommate requests will be<br />

honored until November 15, 2013 and need to be submitted either on the housing form or in writing by both students to the Freshman Housing<br />

Coordinator via fax +1 631-665—5590 or email FreshmanHousing@sgu.edu. Entering students cannot request to live with upper classmen. You<br />

may contact FreshmanHousing@sgu.edu if you have questions about your housing assignment.<br />

Note: Roommate assignments are subject to change prior to your arrival on the island.<br />

PLEASE NOTE ALL DORMITORIES AND BUILDINGS ARE SMOKE FREE. No animals are allowed in the dormitories. <strong>St</strong>udents are<br />

prohibited from bringing extra furniture or additional electrical appliances <strong>of</strong> any kind (such as refrigerator, microwave, hot plate, toaster<br />

oven, heating or cooling unit) into their room or suite. Each dorm room will be inspected at the beginning and end <strong>of</strong> each term. A damage<br />

fee will be charged to your account for any damage done to your room or apartment during the term. Personal belongings will not be insured<br />

by the <strong>University</strong> for any flood, theft, fire or natural disasters. Therefore it is advised that all residents insure their personal belongings.<br />

OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING<br />

You are eligible to seek <strong>of</strong>f-campus housing if you are married (with or without children), bringing pets with you, going into second term, or have<br />

received special permission through the housing <strong>of</strong>fice. In the event you are eligible for <strong>of</strong>f-campus housing, you may obtain a list <strong>of</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

approved housing upon request. This housing is not sponsored by the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

*ALTERNATIVE HOUSING<br />

In the event rooms are not available on the True Blue Campus at the time <strong>of</strong> move-in, the <strong>University</strong> will house affected students in an alternative housing location.

wish to cancel this housing contract must take note that refunds are not available in all circumstances. Please refer to the SGU Housing Cancellation Policy for<br />
