B. Pointing geometry<br />

The function sitegeom1.m computes and plots elevation, azimuth, range and the <strong>beam</strong><br />

intersection angle χ at the specified site, <strong>for</strong> Tromsø vertical, field-aligned and CP2<br />

pointing schemes. The pointing info <strong>for</strong> several prospective and current sites are shown<br />

Fig. 36–41. The program calls the official EISCAT geometry <strong>package</strong> geom (standard<br />

EISCAT filesystem location /kst/eros4/geom) to per<strong>for</strong>m the geometry computations,<br />

so this directory must be on the <strong>Matlab</strong> path. The <strong>package</strong> has been modified to allow<br />

the standard EISCAT ESR site to be replaced by an arbitrary site. The geometry<br />

<strong>package</strong> version 1.4 or higher contains these modifications.<br />
