Evidence-based practice is a healthcare practice
approach in which patient management is driven by
clinical expertise, patient preference, and best possible
scientific evidence. This workshop covers the principles
of evidence-based practice and it specifically caters to
clinicians who wish to improve their clinical practice
through enhanced skills in sourcing, interpreting, and
applying the scientific literature.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the workshop, the participants should be
able to:
1) Systematically source for scientific evidence that
relates to a clinical question
2) Appraise the quality of a clinical research based on
its methodology
3) Interpret the results of common types of clinical
research

Dawn Tan
Principal Physiotherapist, Department of Physiotherapy, SGH
Dawn completed her Masters in Neurological Physiotherapy
and Doctor of Clinical Physiotherapy with the University of
Melbourne. She is currently working in Singapore General
Hospital and has been involved in the rehabilitation of
patients with neurological conditions for more than ten years.
Dawn’s areas of interests include stroke rehabilitation and
Parkinson’s disease management. She has participated and
presented in various local scientific conferences.
Ong Hwee Kuan
Principal Physiotherapist, Department of Physiotherapy, SGH
Hwee Kuan has been working as a Physiotherapist in
cardiopulmonary sections since 1999. She has a keen interest
in promoting the skills that enable efficient acquiring,
analyzing and applying scientific literature in Physiotherapy
clinical practice. She completed Clinical Doctorate training in
Physiotherapy from the University of Melbourne, Australia in
2009. Her thesis examined the effects of pulmonary
rehabilitation in patients with bronchiectasis.
Pua Yong Hao
Principal Physiotherapist, Department of Physiotherapy, SGH
Yong Hao is a Principal Physiotherapist at the Singapore
General Hospital. He graduated from the University of
Melbourne with a PhD (Physiotherapy) in 2009 and his
doctoral work investigates the physical correlates of physical
function in persons with symptomatic hip osteoarthritis.
June Quek
Principal Physiotherapist, Department of Physiotherapy, SGH
June is a Principal Physiotherapist with the Singapore General
Hospital where she actively mentors and coaches fellow
physiotherapists, along with her clinical load and other
research projects. She graduated from the University of
Queensland with a Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy in
2005.
