MATHABLE® QUATTRO
CONTAINS: 106 numbered cards
GET READY: Around a table of 2 to 4
players, a player shuffles the cards,
distributes 7 cards face down to each
player and places 4 cards from the deck,
2 rows of 2 cards side by side and face up,
in the center of the playing surface.
The dealer places the remainder of the
deck face down on the side, this is the
reserve pile. The players then decide how
many rounds they will play.
PL AY: When all players have their cards in hand, the player sitting to the left
of the dealer can now play. The player tries to place one of their cards on the 4
cards face up in the middle of the playing surface, observing the following rule:
A card placed on the game surface must be the result of a mathematical
operation (+, -, x, ÷) formed by two adjacent cards horizontally or vertically
(not diagonally) and can be placed indiscriminately on one of the two cards
making the equation.
Note that the players continue for as long as they can, placing their cards one
by one onto the 4 cards making equations. When a player can no longer place
cards in the game, it is the next player’s turn to play.
Example: John has card number 32 in his game. He can put the 32 on the card
20 or card 12 (20 + 12 = 32). Note that if John was also holding the card 25,
then he could choose to place his 32 on the 20 which would enable him to
make a new operation and then put the 25 on card number 7 or 32 (32 - 7 = 25).

If a player can’t place a card on their turn, they must draw a card from the
reserve. They then have a choice to place that card on one of the 4 cards in
the center of the playing surface without being required to complete an
equation.
If the players wish, they can exchange a card. The player simply places the
card that they want to exchange face down on a pile beside the reserve,
which will become the trash. Then the player must draw 2 new cards from
the reserve (one for the exchange and the other one as a penalty). If they do
not want to make an exchange, they simply draw one card as a penalty.
DIAGONAL PLAY: Once per round, each player is allowed to make one
diagonal play. A diagonal play is a move in addition to the vertical and
horizontal move. The player can make a mathematical operation using
the diagonal option. They must announce to the player that they are
using their diagonal move. If all players have used their diagonal move
in a round then every player can use the diagonal play at their turn until
the end of the round. Note that if the players have agreed to play several
rounds, every new round the player will only be able to use the diagonal
play once until all the players used it, as explained above.
HOW TO WIN: The player who has placed all their cards first is declared the
winner of the round. Then the next round begins, depending on how many
rounds were decided to play.
To start the next round all players return all their cards to the bottom of the
trash, face down. The winner of the previous round then takes the cards in
the reserve pile and deals 7 new cards to each player. The player immediately
to the left of the winner plays first and starts the new round. If more cards
are needed, keep the 4 top cards in the middle of the playing surface and
remove the piles of cards under these cards and add them to the reserve pile
face down. Do not shuffle the cards.
NB: This step may be repeated several times depending on the number of
rounds that will be played.
