Sick leave and wage compensation<br />

Your wage compensation dur<strong>in</strong>g sick leave must be paid for by your employer and<br />

not <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia, even when your sick leave lasts for more than 30<br />

days, and even if your employer is <strong>in</strong> bankruptcy proceed<strong>in</strong>gs. Unfortunately, <strong>the</strong><br />

country does not bear responsibility for persons on justified sick leave, who are<br />

left without <strong>the</strong>ir wage compensation.<br />

Medical treatment without health <strong>in</strong>surance<br />

The outpatient cl<strong>in</strong>ic and its counsell<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong>fice for persons without basic health<br />

<strong>in</strong>surance is located on Strossmayerjeva 15 <strong>in</strong> Maribor. It is open from Monday to<br />

Thursday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The doctor works <strong>the</strong>re every Monday from 4<br />

p.m. to 5.30 p.m., and every Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.<br />

Every second and third week <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> month, <strong>the</strong> doctor also receives patients on<br />

Wednesday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. You may acquire all <strong>the</strong> detailed<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation by call<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> outpatient cl<strong>in</strong>ic at 05 90 80 359.<br />

Costs related to arrang<strong>in</strong>g work relationship<br />

Your employer is <strong>in</strong> no way allowed to make you pay for f<strong>in</strong>ancial burdens related<br />

to acquir<strong>in</strong>g your work permit or work relationship arrangement. Your employer<br />

is thus bound to pay all costs related to form<strong>in</strong>g an employment contract: work<br />

permit, medical exam<strong>in</strong>ation, etc.<br />

Unemployment compensation<br />

If you are receiv<strong>in</strong>g unemployment compensation (from <strong>the</strong> Employment Service<br />

<strong>of</strong> Slovenia) and your temporary <strong>residence</strong> permit is about to expire, you may<br />

extend it or apply for a new one. However, this can be done only for as long as you
