adequate means <strong>of</strong> material support: pension, scholarship, monthly <strong>in</strong>come<br />

from a life annuity, rent, a large family supplement, child benefits, child care<br />

allowance and parental benefits.<br />

Citizenship & children <strong>of</strong> parents without<br />

citizenship<br />

At least one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parents must be a citizen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia for his or her<br />

child to acquire <strong>the</strong> Slovenian citizenship. If nei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parents has citizenship,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n a child can apply for <strong>the</strong> citizenship when he or she turns 18, provided that he or<br />

she can present pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir cont<strong>in</strong>uous stay <strong>in</strong> Slovenia s<strong>in</strong>ce birth.<br />

• you and your partner have acquired citizenship <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia;<br />

• one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> parents has acquired citizenship <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia beforehand,<br />

and subsequently applies for <strong>the</strong> citizenship <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> child, provided<br />

that <strong>the</strong> child has been liv<strong>in</strong>g with this parent cont<strong>in</strong>uously <strong>in</strong> Slovenia for<br />

at least a year before mak<strong>in</strong>g an application and that <strong>the</strong> child holds alien<br />

status;<br />

• <strong>the</strong> child was born <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia and is less than one year old,<br />

provided that citizenship is requested for by <strong>the</strong> parent who is a citizen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia.<br />

A child or children who have not yet turned 18 may acquire citizenship upon request<br />

only if:
