• matriculation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> system <strong>of</strong> formal or <strong>in</strong>formal education <strong>in</strong> Slovenia;<br />
• o<strong>the</strong>r justified reasons (such as receipt <strong>of</strong> Slovenian pension, guardianship,<br />
ownership <strong>of</strong> real estate, receipt <strong>of</strong> employment benefits, medical<br />
treatment);<br />
• Slovenian orig<strong>in</strong> up to <strong>the</strong> third successive generation;<br />
• family reunification;<br />
• o<strong>the</strong>r reasons, def<strong>in</strong>ed by <strong>the</strong> Aliens Act.<br />
Renewal <strong>of</strong> a temporary <strong>residence</strong> permit:<br />
A temporary <strong>residence</strong> permit can be renewed under <strong>the</strong> same conditions as it<br />
was issued. You should submit an application at <strong>the</strong> adm<strong>in</strong>istrative unit prior to<br />
<strong>the</strong> expiry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> current permit. You are allowed to stay <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia<br />
for as long as your application is under consideration.<br />
The requirement <strong>of</strong> a five-year cont<strong>in</strong>uous stay can also be met if you were<br />
stay<strong>in</strong>g outside <strong>the</strong> Republic <strong>of</strong> Slovenia and also if your temporary <strong>residence</strong><br />
permit has not been issued for a certa<strong>in</strong> period <strong>of</strong> time. The limitation<br />
here, however, is that each <strong>of</strong> your <strong>in</strong>dividual absences may not exceed six<br />
consecutive months and that <strong>the</strong> sum <strong>of</strong> your <strong>in</strong>dividual absences may not<br />
exceed n<strong>in</strong>e months with<strong>in</strong> this period <strong>of</strong> five years.<br />
Permanent <strong>residence</strong> permit<br />
You may apply for a permanent <strong>residence</strong> permit as a citizen <strong>of</strong> a third country after<br />
hav<strong>in</strong>g cont<strong>in</strong>uously resided <strong>in</strong> Slovenia for five years on <strong>the</strong> basis <strong>of</strong> a temporary<br />
<strong>residence</strong> permit while also comply<strong>in</strong>g with all o<strong>the</strong>r conditions set out <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
Aliens Act.
