You were granted <strong>the</strong> status <strong>of</strong> a refugee<br />

This means that your rights are almost equal to those <strong>of</strong> Slovenian citizens and<br />

that you have been given a permanent <strong>residence</strong> permit. You may work, you may<br />

enter formal education, you may move to whichever place you choose <strong>in</strong> Slovenia.<br />

Subsidised accommodation, on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r hand, is not available to you. You will be<br />

given a Refugee ID Card and if you apply, also a Refugee Travel Document, which<br />

allows you to travel freely among EU member states. After five years <strong>of</strong> <strong>residence</strong><br />

and two <strong>of</strong>ficially acknowledged years <strong>of</strong> employment <strong>in</strong> Slovenia, you may apply<br />

for Slovenian citizenship.<br />

O<strong>the</strong>r rights <strong>of</strong> persons with refugee status:<br />

An <strong>in</strong>tegration house is meant to make <strong>the</strong> transitory period <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegration<br />

somewhat easier for refugees by tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> burden <strong>of</strong> f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g adequate hous<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong>ir shoulders for a while, thus allow<strong>in</strong>g refugees to focus on o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

issues. The <strong>in</strong>tegration house <strong>in</strong> Maribor is located on Makedonska 33 and<br />

has room for accommodat<strong>in</strong>g up to 45 <strong>in</strong>dividuals.<br />

b. Once you f<strong>in</strong>d private accommodations and form a tenancy agreement, <strong>the</strong><br />

M<strong>in</strong>istry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Interior will grant you f<strong>in</strong>ancial compensation for private accommodations<br />

for <strong>the</strong> next two years <strong>of</strong> your <strong>in</strong>tegration period.<br />

A s<strong>in</strong>gle person with <strong>in</strong>ternational protection status is entitled to receive<br />

f<strong>in</strong>ancial compensation for private accommodations <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong> basic<br />

m<strong>in</strong>imum <strong>in</strong>come, which equals € 260 per month (after taxes) <strong>in</strong> 2012.<br />

a. Free accommodation <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>tegration house for a one-year period.
