<strong>Florida</strong> State Senior Open<br />
Local favorite Gene Fieger, who<br />
turned 50 in June, scored his first<br />
victory in senior golf Oct. 17th<br />
when he won the 34th annual <strong>Florida</strong><br />
State Senior Open at the Naples<br />
Beach Hotel and <strong>Golf</strong> Club. Twotime<br />
former champion Ed Sabo of<br />
Tequesta, playing in the group in<br />
front of Fieger’s threesome, closed<br />
with his second straight 68 and<br />
took second at 210. Ken Martin<br />
of Wellington, the first round leader,<br />
was third at 74-211 followed at<br />
214 by Mike San Filippo of Hobe<br />
Sound, a three-time champion<br />
(2004 and 2007-08), and Mike<br />
Dopslaff of Naples, both with final<br />
round scores of 70.<br />
There were 150 entries, pros and<br />
amateurs 50 years and older. Competition<br />
was in six age groups.<br />
