(called also crural) branch. It runs beneath <strong>the</strong> transversalis<br />
fascia and <strong>the</strong> peritoneum (Liu 2002).<br />

Descending <strong>the</strong> surface of <strong>the</strong> psoas muscle underneath <strong>the</strong><br />
peritoneum, <strong>the</strong> genital branch crosses over anterior to <strong>the</strong><br />
external iliac vessels and enters <strong>the</strong> inguinal canal through <strong>the</strong><br />
deep ring. It accompanies <strong>the</strong> cremasteric vessels at <strong>the</strong><br />
posterior edge of <strong>the</strong> spermatic cord enshea<strong>the</strong>d by <strong>the</strong><br />
cremasteric fascia (Liu 2002). This nerve supplies <strong>the</strong> cremaster<br />
muscle and <strong>the</strong> skin of <strong>the</strong> scrotum and thigh. In females, <strong>the</strong><br />
genital branch accompanies <strong>the</strong> round ligament of <strong>the</strong> uterus.<br />
The genital branch of <strong>the</strong> genitofemoral nerve (gGFN) shares a<br />
great variability with <strong>the</strong> IHN and <strong>the</strong> IIN (Rab 2001).<br />
The femoral branch passes behind <strong>the</strong> inguinal ligament or <strong>the</strong><br />
IOM alongside <strong>the</strong> external iliac artery. It enters <strong>the</strong> femoral<br />
sheath superficially and laterally to <strong>the</strong> femoral artery. The<br />
