You can chose to seen them all together on one page, or separated
by chapter. This function allows you to coalesce specific areas of
text that you wish to focus on, perhaps for study purposes.
You can delete your highlights either where they appear in the text
or at the “My Notes” area.
In the “My Notes” section, you will find a “Study Card” button
which, when pressed, will make study cards of each of your highlighted
sections, with any “post-its” that you added appended to
the back of your study card. In addition, each glossary item (itemized
by the chapters in which they appear) will appear as a study
card, with the glossary definition appearing on the back of the
card. Access the back of the card with a tap on the front of the card.
If the definition (or highlighted area of your text) is quite long, the
card “scrolls” with a tap and slide of your finger.
The figures and tables are all viewable in pdf format. Videos, interactive
figures and animated slides are not viewable in pdf. The review
quiz, because of its interactive element, does not appear with
the pdf document. However, most of that content is available in

The content that is unavailable on the pdf appears as “spaceholders”,
such that the reader knows what he or she might wish to seek
out and the context in which it appears. There has been no alteration
in the pdf version for that reason.

The use of the ibook application involves exclusivity to the ipad for
viewing. Recognizing that not all learners own or have access to an
ipad, the creators of “Understanding Anesthesiology: A Learner’s

Most of the content of “Understanding Anesthesiology: A
Learner’s Guide” is maintained in the pdf format. The interactivity
of the ibook, however, is absent in the pdf. Though the bolded
words are not hyperlinked to the glossary, they do indicate to the
pdf reader that that particular word appears in the glossary. The
glossary itself appears in the back of the pdf, with words appearing
sequentially, alphabetically.
