Sellick’s maneuver
Sellick’s maneuver is the application of cricoid pressure during the induction of a patient
who is at risk of aspiration. The maneuver aims to use the cricoid cartilage, the only circumferential
cartilage of the airway, to temporarily occlude the esophagus to prevent passive regurgitation
of stomach contents while the airway is unprotected.
