Positive pressure ventilation
Positive pressure ventilation, often referred to as mechanical ventilation, is the process of
achieving tidal volume through the application of positive pressure to the patient’s airway.
It is most easily achieved through an endotracheal tube or tracheostomy tube.
Positive pressure ventilation can be achieved through bag mask ventilation or with a ventilator.
Most (but not all) patients under anesthesia receive positive pressure ventilation.
