Phrenic nerve<br />

<strong>The</strong> phrenic nerve, arising from the third-fifth cervical nerve roots, controls the diaphragm.<br />

It is possible to block the phrenic nerve with a brachial plexus block when the supraclavicular<br />

or interscalene approach is used. For this reason (amongst others) bilateral brachial<br />

plexus blocks are contraindicated.<br />
