Chemoreceptor trigger zone
The chemoreceptor trigger zone is located in the area postrema of the medulla. Its afferent
input is systemic, where it can be triggered by certain drugs and hormones. Its efferent path
is to the vomiting center, where it initiates vomiting.
The vomiting centre receives input from other sources, other than the chemoreceptor trigger
zone, such as the gastrointestinal tract, the vestibular system and the higher cortex.
