Deirdre Bonuccelli is the vice
president of the Crew Boosters. She
has been involved with crew ever
since her daughter, Christa, was a
freshman. Since then, Deirdre has
continued to build a foundation for
the crew program that assures the
team a successful future. Over the
years, she has assessed the needs of the
team and has pulled together a group
of parents that give guidance and
support, so that the young Seton crew
members can achieve their season’s
goals. Her purpose is to alleviate the
logistics of running the team from the
coach and crew members in order to
allow them to focus on training and
regatta victories.
Crew Boosters have designated a
board of members who are crew
parents, and they lead the program in
fundraising projects and in focusing
on the necessities of making the team
successful. Each parent receives a
copy of a crew handbook, complete
with terminology, rules, and financials
for the year. They are also given the
opportunity to sign up as volunteers
for different team projects and as
parent chaperones. Operating the
concession stands during University
of Maryland games is the biggest
fundraiser for the crew boosters.
Crew Boosters have achieved their
goals for this year: one of which
was to purchase a trailer to haul the
boats to the dock for practice and
competitions. They have also helped
pay for boat storage, team uniforms,
and regatta entry fees. Their goal
for fundraising next year includes
acquiring corporate sponsorships and
focusing their energy toward other
creative methods for raising funds,
as they are in need of a new shell, a
four boat, and other pieces of new
equipment.
The Crew Boosters have seen the
fruits of their goal of allowing the crew
members and coaches to focus on
training for victories. The team was
triumphant at State Championships
and participated in the elite Stotesbury
Cup, which is the national and largest
high school rowing competition. They
ranked 11th in the time trials and
4th in the semifinals. Next year, the
team will return to the tournament as
stronger competition. With the Crew
Boosters keeping the team’s spirit high,
increasing the fundraising, and the
focusing on winning, the next season
promises to be another winner for our
crew team.
Before
After
Seton’s Field of Dreams Fund was
initiated to restore our athletic field,
re-surface our track, and equip the area
with new bleachers and proper safety
lighting. The project started with the
support of Seton’s friends, Senator Doug
Peters and Senator David Harrington,
who helped secure a $50,000 matching
grant from the State of Maryland. The
generosity of our faculty and staff,
parents, and alumnae gifted us with the
required $25,000 for the match.
The funding was capped with a major
gift of $15,000 from Jerry Nielsen, a
close friend of Sharon and Ed Pasterick,
who brought the project to completion.
Our thanks to everyone who made this
dream a reality.
