It has been an extremely disappointing season
to say the least. Mazarrón are at the
very bottom of the Preferente Autonomica
with relegation now a certainty. The poor
performances led to many of the senior players
leaving the Club at various stages of the
season. The greatest loss has been former
captain Juan Andres who had been a pillar of
strength in the centre of defence for a number
of seasons. In addition, last year’s top
goal scorer Ruben was never replaced and
the leading scorer this season is the juvenile,
Diego, with only six goals, and he too has now
sadly departed for pastures new.
Jan Andres who has now left the Club
A change in the management structure has
brought in Dutch coach, Jelco Oosterhof, and
although performances have improved considerably,
results have not. With only six senior
players to choose from, Jelco has had to
call upon the services of many of the successful
juvenile squad, but the youngsters have
often had to play two games in two days, and
this obviously has an effect on performances.
With a very promising youth set-up at both
Juvenile and Cadete level, it is hoped that the
future will be much brighter as long as the
majority of these youngsters can be retained.
The excellent playing pitch
at the start of the season
One important issue which has to be mentioned
is the disgraceful state of the playing
surface at the Estadio Municipal. It is an embarrassment
not only to the Football Club but
also to the town of Mazarrón and it is hoped
that serious efforts will be made to bring this
up to an acceptable standard for next season.
Despite all this, the support of Los Amigos
de Mazarron FC for the local football club
has never wavered and as well as giving
much needed vocal support, Los Amigos has
donated considerable monies to the Football
Club to help it through this difficult period.
In addition, it recently staged a successful
