This is probably the prettiest time of year,
especially up here in Northwest Murcia.
The wildflowers are stunning, somehow
managing to put on an amazing show,
even though we have had very little rain.
Everywhere looks so green with the flowers
showing their bright colours along the
verges and amongst the grass.
28 th March saw the MABS Northwest
Dance, which was held at Don Gomes on
the Calasparra Road. Lenny Mitchell, with
his 60’s and 70’s music entertained everyone
and a good night was had by all. The
food was much better than the previous
visit to Don Gomez and the raffle was well
supported. All profits for the night will go
to MABS for the support of cancer patients
in the area.
It is great that there are now a few evenings
of entertainment being organised
in the area and we thank Rick and co for
the great night on 18 th April. Around 250
people were wined, dined and entertained
at La Daya in Calasparra as part of the
Rockin Rog’ and Rollin’ Rik party programme.
As usual, the food was excellent
with service to match and the drinks were
at a very reasonable price. It was just like
being back at school with 2 nd ’s and 3 rd ’s
of chicken and pork being served to the
hungry party goers.
Once the meal was out of the way, DJ Tony
from Retro Disco Services got the dancing
under way with an appropriate song from
the Mavericks “Dance the Night Away”
and that’s what happened from then on.
Great music from the 50’s and 60’s proved
popular, with plenty of sing-alongs and
moves reminiscent of Saturday Night Fever
– move over John! The girls got into
the spirit when “It’s Raining Men” came on
with plenty of arm waving and joining in
when Tony stopped for audience participation.
again rock ‘n’ rolling, twisting and jiving
- don’t know if next time we should have
the Red Cross waiting outside seeing some
of the moves that were being executed!
Status Duo came into their own for the
next set, playing some memorable hits
from Status Quo, which had 2 party goers
bring out their own guitars to join in on
the moves that The Quo made so famous
– good on you guys for audience participation.
Tony brought the night to a close
with some more popular hits of the era
and several “smoochies” to calm things
(and people) down a bit. Finally at around
12.30am it all came to an end though a
few “hardliners” would have gone on for
more.
The 2 guys, Nick and Alan from Status
Duo started their 1 st set with guitar skills
that were amazing and were well appreciated
by the audience, playing a good mix
of well known classics and oldies. More
from DJ Tony had the dancers on the floor
As a small amount of money was left over
from the proceeds, a donation of 100€ is
going to the MARA dog charity.
T he next party from Rog and Rik will be
a Summer Party on July 4 th – details to
follow.
If you are having a clear out, don’t forget
that MARA are holding their Car
Boot Sale on Sunday May 27 th at the
Polideportivo car park in Mula. To book a
