Firstly we would like to say our grateful
thanks to two committee members who are
standing down. Renée Fortuin is returning
to Holland after helping to re-home many
of our dogs, but she will continue her good
work from Holland. Thank you also to Peter
Bowles for all his effort and hard work.
We continue to seek a home for Berty, a
German Shepherd cross, aged around 17
months. When he was found, he tested
positive for Leishmania. He has been
treated and his latest test gave a negative
result. Berty needs a home with someone
who has the time to spend training him. He
is a lovely, affectionate boy who so needs
his forever home.
Another dog desperate for his own family
is Blackie, a sweet lively young boy, who
plays well with other dogs, gets on with
cats and enjoys socialising with people.
He is very affectionate and loves to be
cuddled. He is responsive to commands
and walks well on the lead. Like Berty, he
has Leishmania and has been treated.
For more information on Berty or Blackie,
or any other MARA dog, please call Marion
on 968979865 or 628811187 or Keith
on 628811188.
The next MARA Car Boot Sale will be held
on the 27 th May. To book a stall, please call
Marion on 968979865 or 628811187.
The Car Boot Sale will be held in the car
park of the Sports Centre in Mula and stall
holders to arrive at 9am for 10am start.
Stalls are 5€ per car. There will be no
charge for registered Charity stall holders.
The MARA Shop in Mula is desperately
short of items to sell. If anyone has
anything that they could donate, please
contact Marion on 628811187. Collection
can be arranged. Thank you.
Finally, a big thank you for the fantastic
support from our friends in Calasparra.
Greg, Jenni and Geoffrey raised 174€ at
the Fun Race Night at the Andalus Bar
and Anne and Diane donated almost 100€
from their very successful afternoon tea
at the Trevol Bar. Both events were well
attended and more are planned for the
future!
In association with Costa Cálida International Radio and www.angloINFO.com
On Sunday 25 th March, Rick Mead, Pete
Kenworthy and Martin Dainty (on holiday
from the UK) joined a small group of
cyclists to compete in the 1 st Ruta de
Senderisimo a Beneficio de Proyecto
Hombre, a 25km ride along the Via Verde
from Bullas to Caravaca and a 10km walk
from Cehegin to Caravaca.
Page 48
Proyecto Hombre is an institution
dedicated to the treatment of addictions
in Spain and each region has its own set
up.Funds raised from this activity will be
used to support its various programmes of
treatment of these addictions.
The Via Verde is a good surfaced track
which used to be old railway lines between
the towns which also extends towards
Mula from Bullas.
There was a mixture of men and women
riders including a family with the 2 children
travelling in a buggy behind Dad!
The Police motor cyclists escorted the
riders around Bullas to the Via Verde
where they headed towards Cehegin. At
the tunnel just outside the Cehegin, the
cyclists passed the walkers, but continued
at their own pace towards the finish at
Fuente de Marques.
The finish was a hive of activity with all
competitors receiving a bag of local
produce and souvenir bandana similar to
those of “La Pena’s”, which the children
who had been on the walk, wore with pride
after the event.
Rather than take the bus back to Bullas,
Rick, Pete and Martin took the opportunity
to ride back for a bit of extra training!
Hopefully, this will be an annual event
with more participants entering each
subsequent year.
