Final Procession
Mazarrón closed its processions with the
beautiful procession of the Holy Burial,
through the heart of the town followed by
a large number of neighbours, visitors and
tourists who came to the scene to know more
about the traditions and customs of Mazarrón.
As usual, the “Cabildo de Cofradías de Semana
Santa de Mazarrón” opened the final
processions on 6 April, followed by the Cofradía
de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno.
His brothers, dressed entirely in purple, accompanied
the Cristo del Sagrario, which
was the first float in the processions. The
Cofradía de San Juan, paraded with hoods,
coats and turquoise sashes and white robes.
La Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús again
made an appearance with his purple tunic
with hood, coat and gold sash, on this occasion
making way for the Virgen de la Cruz
who was shown alone on Mount Gólgota
and carrying the crown in her hands and
nails with which they had crucified her son.
Fully dressed in flesh colour, but with black
sashes came the Cofradía del Santo Sepulcro.
The float of the Santo Sepulcro is possibly
the most beautiful and spectacular of
all the Easter ones in Mazarrón. In it, the life
of Christ’s body is surrounded by a sea of
flames, resting in a golden cradle. Excited and
impressed to see this throne paraded through
the streets of the town for its majesty and
solemnity, the procession took place to the
sound of trumpets and drums, breaking the
silence of the faithful in awe of the show.
The Brotherhood of San Juan were dressed
all in white but with red sashes. The procession
closed with the Cofradía de la Virgen de
la Soledad and its brothers, wearing cloaks,
sashes, and black coats with white robes, accompanied
the mother of Christ, and marched
on ground peppered with white flowers.
After the procession mother and child, the
“Soledad” and the “Sepulcro” arrived at the
doors of the Santuario de La Purísima where
people arrived to demonstrate their devotion
to both images the whole night. The night
was led by the parish priest of San Antonio
and San Andres, Julio Romero, who was accompanied
by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés
Campillo, the first deputy mayor, Francisco
Garcia and council members.
The Town Hall Continues to Help with
Training
The Town Hall of Mazarrón, through the local
development Council, continues to
work to improve the skills of workers in local
businesses and the unemployed so
that they may qualify for jobs available
within Mazarrón companies. During February
and March various courses took place.
25 unemployed attended “The Food Hygiene”
course while the same number
of unemployed participated in “Prevention
of Occupational Hazards”.
Within this area of work safety prevention,
10 workers and 14 unemployed attended
a specific course, while 8 workers
and 16 unemployed attended the course
which focused on “The Tractor Safety”.
Other courses conducted included “Olive Tree
Pruning”, attended by 15 farmers and 5 unemployed.
The course “Home Care for Dependents”,
saw participation of 10 workers
and 10 unemployed and “IT Applicable To
Job Search” started the last week in March.
Another two courses took place in April and
included “Application of Plant Protection.
Basic Level.”.
In addition, through PROFEIL Convention, adopted
in late January and signed between the
Town Hall, Mazarrón, Local Businesses and
the Horticultural Region, there have been four
people employed. It is important for all unemployed
who are job seeking and interested
in attending courses to remember to register
and update your details in the Local Employment
Centre.
