FAST (First Aid Support Team Camposol) revived the Easter Bunny (Local Artist Paula Klages) in a lifesaving demonstration at their Easter Fayre in Mariano´s Restaurant on Easter Saturday when over 500 people visited the event that raised €1800 which will go to fund another Oxygen and Defibrillation Course, keeping FAST at the top of their field in Spain. There was a myriad of stalls from remote control camera systems that beam images direct to your personal mobile phone, to home baked cakes and jams, hand-made jewellery to artist demonstrations and equipment. Glen Ford the Secretary of FAST said, we continue to be overwhelmed at the support given by both residents and stallholders and also our non-operational support team that help organise the event and run the tombola. We could not survive and provide this unique & totally free service without them. At the Christmas Fayre we were asked if we could run an Easter Fayre, so we gave it a try and it was a huge success. A Big Thanks to our volunteers and everyone involved. The FAST service has been running now for nearly 11 months and has responded to over 120 call outs at an average of around 12 per month. Interestingly more call-outs occur in daytime hours rather than night time as was expected. Recently FAST responded to a gentleman who was choking when the seal from a tomato sauce squeezy bottle that had stuck to the bottom of his “chip buttie” lodged in his throat! Luckily FAST train regularly with a special Heimlich Manoeuvre Training vest to help dislodge blockages from the airway. (See Photograph) and the gentleman survived. FAST would like to remind residents that 112 must always be called before calling FAST on 968970626 to ensure that the professionals are already on their way. That allows FAST to bridge the gap between calling 112 and their arrival. No time should be wasted in calling either 112 or FAST as every minute counts in emergencies. There should be no concern at wasting time, especially if a casualty is unconscious, have breathing difficulties, or a major bleed. FAST have re-printed their information leaflet to include a section to record the Polygono number, address and telephone number, as although people may well know and remember this when all is calm, it can be so easy to get in a muddle or forget key information when in a panic. These are available from the Compusurf Shop, Camposol B or at the Tea Pot Café in Puerto de Mazarrón free of charge, although small donations are always welcome! FAST are always looking for new volunteers, so if you are fit and healthy and hold a valid driving license why not give them a call? FAST - Making Camposol Safer For All! Green Fingers has become a group of like-minded friends, not just gardeners (and labourers!). We receive so many positive comments, making all the hard work worthwhile. A new committee will welcome new committee members and new volunteers, offering free breakfast on Wednesdays to sweeten their hard labour. Come along and make new friends even if you’re only here for hols. You’ll be beautifying your whole community! The ‘Bienvenidos a C’ feature now has its new bench and the final flower planter, which was stolen, will soon be replaced. A similar feature is being created opposite Sensol Office, with a picket fence surrounding another seat which has been donated by someone who cannot volunteer because of medical reasons yet wanted to show his appreciation for Green Fingers’ hard work! If you can donate any plants, pots etc. we’d be most grateful and for any time you can spend watering; both plants and the volunteers! Every Euro of each member’s monthly payment is used to enhance the whole of ‘C’, though the general programme of maintenance may only reach your road every few weeks. If you’re not a member and see our teams working, please contribute a little to our bucket! Don’t forget our Diamond Jubilee Street Party on 4 th June, with Lenny Mitchell, BBQ and complimentary glass of cava! Everyone is welcome: please check chalkboards, Facebook and website for information and contact numbers. Also, our CIF has enabled us to legally open two free, interest bearing bank accounts and we’re currently sourcing insurance cover for our volunteers.
