Due to Christmas commitments for most
people, there will be no NEST walks during
December, but we will have an extra one at
the beginning of January.
Thursday 3 rd January – Fossilized Dinosaur’s
Footprint – Meet El Berro car park
10.30am
Friendly, easy, non-sporty, short walk to see
a fossilized dinosaur’s footprint in the Sierra
Espuña. Includes a very easy short rope
bridge with a wooden base. Bring cameras
and get your friends to think you’ve been
very adventurous, although anyone can do
it - NEST walks are particularly easy and we
always cater to the slower people in the group
and wait without rushing ahead, but please
wear proper walking footwear for rubbly rural
paths and you do need to be healthy. Bring
water to sip and a smile for a lovely morning
out! An optional meal in an authentic Spanish
mountain restaurant where we might see wild
boar! The walk is 5€ and the optional, delicious
meal; salad, starter, main course, dessert
and a drink plus coffee is 9€.

Thursday 31 st January La Santa Monastery
10.30 at La Santa Monastery car
park, between Totana and Aledo.
Easy 3 hour circular walk via Aledo with its
spectacular views, before (optional) eating at
La Santa which has a wonderful atmosphere.

costs about 10€ plus drinks, but the decor is

October and November have been a hugely
busy period for Helping Hands. Early in
October a FLOOD DISASTER APPEAL was
launched and the team have been collecting
and distributing donated items to those who
are desperately in need, particularly in the
Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras region.
One amazing offer of help came from Jessica
and Ana Marie, proprietors of the El Paniajo
Bar & Restaurant in El Marchal, a small village
located between Bedar and Lubrin in Almeria.
Jessica and Ann Marie, after reading of the
Appeal, collected a total of 6 cubic meters of
donated items from their customers, friends
and neighbours. Our thanks go to all involved.
Two additional ventures, the funding of
regular Transportation of Food Parcels to
those in need in Aguilas and Pony Riding for
the Handicapped are also underway.
For our four legged friends, the Helping
Hands is also pleased to announce that they
will now permanently sponsor the Desert
Hearts Rescue and Rehoming Centre
currently run entirely by Marina Lennertson
and Susanna Flierl.
Desert Hearts is always full to the brim
with unwanted dogs and newborn pups, all
of whom receive wonderful care and eventual
re-homing. The daily running of the centre
is very often carried out by Marina, with the
help of a kind-hearted colleague, Jacqui, who
assists whenever she can. Susanna works
continually in order to earn the funds to
help cover the huge costs involved and over
the years the girls have become experts at
building kennels and all things necessary for
such a huge commitment.
We hope that Helping Hands can make a
difference for these wonderful, dedicated
people and, ultimately, the dogs.
Finally, the decision to move the Helping
Hands Charity Shop in Aguilas to another
considerably larger was also taken and new
premises sourced less than 100 mtrs from
the existing shop in the same road, Clle
Fuensanta, off of Avenida Juan Carlos.
The old shop ceased trading on Friday 23
November and it is planned for the new one to
be launched on Saturday 8 th December with a
special inauguration Fiesta at 12noon. All are
invited of course.
One week prior to this the Helping Hands
had another of their hugely successful
events featuring the Liverpool Band at the
magnificent Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel,
beachside at Aguilas.
It is hoped that maybe then there may
be a little time for resting over the Festive
Season!!!
