SPANGLES GO FOR GOLD
After winning gold in the annual chorus
contest of the Spanish Association of
Barbershop Singers (SABS) in San
Pedro del Pinatar in 2011, Spangles Ladies’
Harmony Chorus are flexing their vocal
cords once more, in readiness for the 2013
contest in Benalmádena, Málaga. As part of
their preparation, they received coaching
from Stuart Sides, who has a lifetime of
barbershop/a cappella singing, having grown
up in a very talented family of barbershop
singers.
“We are very fortunate to have Stuart’s
advice and expertise” commented Gail
Grainger, Spangles’ Musical Director. “He
has listened to our two contest songs and
helped us with the interpretation and vocal
quality. We were delighted to be the first
barbershop champions of Spain, Portugal and
the Canaries in 2011 and we want to bring the
trophy back to Los Alcázares again next year,
so we are all working really hard to hone the
techniques that Stuart has taught us.”
In addition to their contest work, Spangles is
also preparing for a busy Christmas season,
with the following planned concerts:

14 December – 13.00 – Iceland Overseas,

15 December – 16.00 – Paddy Singh’s, Los
Urrutias
Spangles will be appearing in two shows;
Friday 11 th January ‘Noche A Capella’, at
21.00 in the Town Hall Theatre, Avenida 13
Octubre, Los Alcázares. Tickets are 6€ each

Sunday, 13 th January ‘Bella A Capella’, at
11.30 at the Auditorio de Castalla in Castalla.

Both shows will feature Spangles, Torrevieja
Harmonisers and two very talented SABS
medal-winning quartets: Hanfris from
Barcelona and FourMidables from Torrevieja.
The concerts are being held to raise funds to
enable both quartets to represent Spain at
the prestigious European Contest in Holland
in April 2013.
Following on from their gold medal success,
Spangles has released a CD called ‘Pure
Gold’, which includes their two winning
contest songs and many audience favourites.
