Invitation to the 4 th European IRPA Congress 2014
The European IRPA Associate Societies mandated the German-Swiss
Radiation Protection Association (FS) to prepare and host the 4 th European
IRPA Congress in 2014. In cooperation with the Association Romande de
Radioprotection (ARRAD), our French speaking colleagues in Switzerland,
Geneva was chosen as host city for this major event. The choice of the
venue was driven by the intention to involve international organizations with
a strong link to radiation protection such as ILO and WHO.
«Radiation protection culture – a global challenge» was chosen as the general theme of the
Congress in order to support the IRPA initiative fostering improvements of RP Culture globally. In
addition to offering a forum for the scientific exchange it is our intention to enable a dialogue on
important cultural elements such as values, beliefs, competencies and recommended practices.
We hope to foster a belief in the success of cultural approaches and to provide guidance to help
equip radiation protection professionals to promote a successful RP culture in their organisation
and workplace.

The Centre International de Conferences Geneva (CICG)
was opened in 1973. It is located close to the Geneva site of
the United Nations complex and to most other international
organisations The Swiss Government placed CICG at
the disposal of the German Swiss Radiation Protection
association for the period of the Congress. This illustrates
the traditional Swiss policy to support activities which aim
to achieve international consensus.
The CICG offers facilities for up to 3,500 persons in a variety
of lecture theatres, conference rooms, and offices equipped
with best available technology. There is adequate space for
poster presentations and a technical exhibit. The CICG also
hosts a post office, a bar and a restaurant seating 600.
