460_OM_MY09.book Page 216 Wednesday, April 2, 2008 10:32 AM 216 Car care Spare wheel Compact spare WARNING The spare wheel or punctured wheel must be stowed under the luggage compartment floor, and secured in place with the retaining nut. The compact spare wheel may only be used when one of the car’s normal tyres has punctured. Maximum distance for the compact spare wheel is approx. 2,100 miles (3,500 km). The spare wheel, tools and jack (replaced by tyre repair kit on certain markets) are stowed under the luggage compartment NOTICE floor. To avoid cosmetic damage to a punctured alloy wheel, this can be temporarily placed outside up in the spare wheel well but only while driving to the closest workshop. As a general rule, all heavy loads must be well secured in the luggage compartment, see page 112. Sedan: Fold the carpeting forward to ease access to the tools and spare wheel. Wagon: The hatch in the floor has a handle. To raise this, press lightly on the marked section of the handle. The screwdriver handle has a "button" for removing two-stage plastic rivets. This type of rivet must be removed before replacing bulbs in the boot lid and right tail light. See page 198.
460_OM_MY09.book Page 217 Wednesday, April 2, 2008 10:32 AM Car care 217 Driving with the compact spare wheel The following should be observed when the compact spare wheel is used: • Do not drive further than necessary with the compact spare fitted - the maximum life of the wheel is approx. 2,100 miles (approx. 3,500 km). • Refit the standard wheel as soon as possible. Wagon Wagon with subwoofer. Position the loudspeaker on the left-hand side before the spare wheel is removed. The arrow on the loudspeaker must point forwards when the loudspeaker is fitted in the spare WARNING Do not exceed 50 mph (80 km/h). The tyre can overheat affecting the car’s roadholding. The tyre pressure should be 4.2 bar (60 psi).
