460_OM_MY09.book Page 214 Wednesday, April 2, 2008 10:32 AM 214 Car care Valve without sensor If the tyre pressure decreases If the tyre pressure decreases to 0.4 bar (6 psi) below the recommended pressure then a warning is shown on the DIC as to which tyres are affected. Tyre pressure low, front left. Check tyres. If the tyre pressure continues to decrease then an alarm is shown on the DIC when the pressure has decreased below the lowest permitted pressure which is 1.6 bar (23.2 psi). An alarm is also received when leakage is greater than 0.2 bar/min. (3 psi/min.). Flat tyre front left. Make a safe stop. Reduce speed (avoid heavy braking and significant steering wheel movement) and stop the car as soon as possible at a suitable location. Replace the defective wheel. The fault message can remain for up to 10 minutes after restarting the car. Then it disappears if the tyre pressure is correct. Check/adjust the pressure in the other tyres when a fault message is shown. Note that tyre pressure can decrease without a puncture. The pressure can decrease approximately 0.2 bar (3 psi) over a period of three months. The temperature in the tyre also affects the tyre pressure. For further information on tyre air pressure, see page 210. Allow 10 minutes for the system to recognize the wheel/sensors positions after fitting a new set of tyres. During this period no low pressure warning or alarm can be triggered. Adjust the pressure as soon as possible.

The above message is shown on the DIC if: • a wheel without pressure sensor has been fitted (e.g. spare wheel) • one, two or three pressure sensors are broken or missing • a fault has arisen in the receiver • a system error has arisen The above messages are not shown if sensors are missing in all wheels. It is then assumed that winter wheels without sensors have been fitted for example. Removing a tyre Remove the tyre with a tyre machine. It is important to follow the instructions for the tyre machine as well. • Do not fit the tyre tool in an area ±10° from the valve. • Start removing opposite the valve. • Remove the rear side first. Fitting a tyre Fit the tyre with a tyre machine. It is important to follow the instructions for the tyre machine as well. • Start to fit about 20° after the valve. • Finish fitting before an area 20° from the valve. • Do not inflate the tyre to pressure higher than 7 bar (102 psi).
