460_OM_MY09.book Page 192 Wednesday, April 2, 2008 10:32 AM 192 Car care Xenon light, dipped beam 3 WARNING Because Xenon lamp unit is under extremely high voltage, entrust all work on the unit, including bulb replacement, to a workshop. We recommend that you contact an authorised <strong>Cadillac</strong> workshop. Xenon headlights produce roughly twice as much light as halogen bulbs and have a significantly longer service life. The lamp units consist of a gas discharge lamp containing xenon. When the lights are switched on a very high voltage activates the xenon gas. The lamps soon reach full intensity. Cars with Xenon headlights have automatic levelling. The levelling system comprises two sensors, one on the front suspension and one on the rear suspension, and a control unit by the engine bay electrical centre. Headlight alignment is adjusted automatically to the car’s load to prevent dazzling drivers in oncoming traffic. If the system malfunctions, the following message will appear on the DIC: Headlight levelling malfunction. We recommend that you contact an authorised <strong>Cadillac</strong> workshop for Xenon bulb replacement.
460_OM_MY09.book Page 193 Wednesday, April 2, 2008 10:32 AM Removing the entire lamp fitting The entire lamp fitting must be removed before the bulbs of the position lights, direction indicators, dipped beam (halogen) and main beam can be replaced. Car care 193 1 Remove the upper screw (1). 2 Slacken the lower screw (2), but do not remove it. 3 Slightly raise the eye where the upper screw (1) sat while pressing down the tongue with a screwdriver. Carefully pull the entire lamp fitting straight forward. 4 Unplug the connector.
