Stop as soon as possible and turn the ignition off. Then start the engine to reset the system. If the light still stays on, or if it comes on again while you're driving, your vehicle needs service. Until you get it fixed, the brakes will still work, but without the antilock feature. CAUTION Driving with any brake warning light on can lead to an accident. Have the brakes checked immediately if any brake warning light stays on. If the regular brake system warning light is also on, the vehicle does not have antilock brakes and there is a problem with the regular brakes. Pull off the road and stop carefully. Have the vehicle towed for service. See "Brake System Warning Light" earlier in this section. If the Brake System Warning Light and the Antilock Brake System Warning Light both turn on and you hear a ten second chime, there may be a problem with the dynamic rear proportioning system. See "Dynamic Rear Proportioning" under "Brakes" in Section 3 for more information. Malfunction Indicator Light This light monitors the fuel, ignition and emission control systems. This light should come on when the ignition is on but the engine is not running, as a check to show you it is working properly. If it doesn't come on, then have it fixed so it will be ready to warn you if there is a problem. . . . 32
