Section 4
Checking the Fluid Level
The best time to check the engine
oil level is when the oil is warm:
1. Park the vehicle on a level
surface and apply the parking
brake.
2. Stop the engine and wait a
few minutes for the oil to
drain back into the oil pan.
3. Remove the dipstick and wipe
it clean.
4. Reinsert the dipstick all the
way until it is firmly seated.
5. Remove the dipstick again and
check the oil level.
Keep the dipstick pointed
down to get an accurate
reading.
The oil level must be in the
cross-hatched area on the
dipstick. Add oil as required.
Avoid over-filling the engine
since this may cause engine
damage.
NOTICE
Don't add too much oil. If your
engine has so much oil that the
oil level gets above the upper
mark that shows the proper
operating range, your engine
could be damaged.
6. Reinsert the dipstick all the
way until it is firmly seated.
