Scholarship Awards Announcement
We are pleased to announce that the following individuals were awarded SEIU Scholarships for
the 2010-2011 academic year.
The SEIU Scholarship Program provides 15 - $1,000 renewable scholarships for up to four years. The

SEIU-Moe Foner Scholarship
The SEIU-Moe Foner Scholarship provides one-$5,000 non-renewable scholarship per year to honor the founder of
the Bread and Roses Cultural Project of SEIU 1199 New York, who devoted his life to celebrating the lives of working
people through the arts. This year’s recipients are:

The SEIU–John Geagan Scholarship provides a $5,000 scholarship extended over a 24 month period to a student
planning to pursue his or her interests in labor studies. This year’s recipient is:

The SEIU–Jesse Jackson Scholarship provides one-$5,000 renewable scholarship for up to four years to a student
planning to pursue his or her interests in social change and activism beyond college graduation. This year’s recipient is:

SEIU-Nora Piore Scholarship
The SEIU Nora Piore Scholarship, made possible by an endowment to the SEIU Education and Support Fund by the
family of the late Nora Kahn Piore. The scholarship is awarded to SEIU health care members and their children who
wish to pursue a career in the healthcare filed. In a career spanning more than 60 years, Piore worked as a union
organizer, labor educator, college professor, health care economist, and as a health care activist who changed the face of
public health in the United States. The award, renewable for up to four years, is currently set at $4,000 and
administered every 4 years. The financial need of applicants is considered during the selection process. This year’s
recipient is:

Union Privilege / Union Plus Scholarship
Union Privilege/Union Plus Scholarships provides various amounts to union members across the country. This
year four SEIU members’ children and one member have been awarded Union Plus Scholarships for the 2010–2011
academic year. These scholarships are awarded annually through the Union Plus Education Foundation with funding
provided by Household Credit Card Services, issuer of the Union Plus Credit Card. Union Plus is the trade name used
for Union Privilege products.
