Alternate Dialing Attempts<br />

Alternate dialing is an option available in the majority of the reporting services and results in<br />

the reporting phone numbers programmed in the service being dialed in an alternative<br />

sequence. In the following example, a service is programmed with two telephone numbers<br />

(Phone 1 and Phone 2) and a backup telephone number. The number of dialing attempts is<br />

set to 8 and the Use Alternate Dialing Method option has been enabled.<br />

If alternate dialing is enabled for the reporting service it is recommended that the monitoring<br />

company is informed and that they can make the appropriate programming arrangements.<br />

Success After 5 th Dialling Attempt With Phone Number 1<br />

In the following example, the <strong>Controller</strong> was able to communicate with the central station<br />

with the programmed phone number 1 on the 5th attempt. As can be seen the back up phone<br />

number is dialed on each alternative failure. This is an extreme example most reports would<br />

have been received on the backup phone typically on the second attempt.<br />

Success After 2 nd Dialling Attempt With Phone Number 2<br />

In the following example, the <strong>Controller</strong> was able to communicate with the central station<br />

only after phone number 2 was dialed for the second time. This resulted in the opening of the<br />

reporting failure trouble zone as a result of the reporting failure. This is subsequently sealed<br />

on the next valid report.<br />
