concluded that <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g is a sensible order of accomplishment:<br />

1. Man <strong>in</strong> space soonest – Project Mercury<br />

2. Ballistic probes<br />

3. Environmental satellite<br />

4. Maneuverable manned satellite<br />

5. Manned space flight laboratory<br />

6. Lunar reconnaissance satellite<br />

7. Lunar land<strong>in</strong>g<br />

8. Mars-Venus reconnaissance<br />

9. Mars-Venus land<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>The</strong> committee at this meet<strong>in</strong>g was not <strong>in</strong> agreement on whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong><br />

present long range objective should be number 6 or 7. <strong>The</strong> Chairman asked each<br />

member to give more thought to this before <strong>the</strong> next meet<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Agenda – <strong>The</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g agenda was agreed to for <strong>the</strong> next meet<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

1. Space Flight Structural Concepts – Loft<strong>in</strong> and a Langley structures<br />

man<br />

2. Parachute development – Low, Loft<strong>in</strong><br />

3. Space vehicle land<strong>in</strong>g techniques – Faget, Eggers, Beeler, Loft<strong>in</strong><br />

4. Mercury lift capabilities – Faget<br />

6. Man’s control functions – Beeler<br />

7. Auxiliary power requirements – Lund<strong>in</strong>, Schurmeier<br />

8. Propulsion requirements for lunar land<strong>in</strong>g – Lund<strong>in</strong>, Schurmeier<br />

9. Lift support – Schurmeier, Faget, Beeler<br />

10. Control, guidance and navigation – Schurmeier<br />

11. ABMA Saturn payload plans – Low<br />

Location and Date – It was agreed to hold to next meet<strong>in</strong>g at Ames on<br />

June 25 and 26.<br />
