1.0 MISSION SUMMARY<br />

<strong>The</strong> fifth manned mission and first rendezvous mission of <strong>the</strong> Gem<strong>in</strong>i<br />

Program, designated Gem<strong>in</strong>i VI-A, was launched from Complex 19, Cape Kennedy,<br />

Florida, at 8:37 a.m. e.s.t., on December 15,1965. <strong>The</strong> flight was successfully<br />

concluded with <strong>the</strong> recovery of <strong>the</strong> spacecraft and <strong>the</strong> flight crew at 23°22.5’<br />

N. latitude 67°52.5’ W. longitude by <strong>the</strong> prime recovery ship (U.S.S. Wasp),<br />

approximately 1 hour and 6 m<strong>in</strong>utes after land<strong>in</strong>g. This rendezvous mission<br />

was launched from Complex 19 with<strong>in</strong> 11 days after <strong>the</strong> launch of <strong>the</strong> Gem<strong>in</strong>i<br />

VII space vehicle. <strong>The</strong> space craft was manned by Astronaut Walter M. Schirra,<br />

command pilot, and Astronaut Thomas P. Stafford, pilot. <strong>The</strong> crew completed <strong>the</strong>
