Roger D. Launius is a member of <strong>the</strong> space history department of <strong>the</strong><br />

Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum and is <strong>the</strong> former<br />

NASA Chief Historian. He has produced many books and articles on aerospace<br />

history, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Innovation and <strong>the</strong> Development of Flight (Texas A&M University<br />

Press, 1999); NASA & <strong>the</strong> Exploration of Space (Stewart, Tabori, & Chang, 1998);<br />

Frontiers of Space Exploration (Greenwood Press, 1998); Organiz<strong>in</strong>g for <strong>the</strong> Use of<br />

John M. Logsdon is Director of <strong>the</strong> Space Policy Institute of George Wash<strong>in</strong>gton<br />

University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, where he is also Professor<br />

Emeritus of Political Science and International Affairs. He holds a B.S. <strong>in</strong><br />

physics from Xavier University and a Ph.D. <strong>in</strong> political science from New York<br />

University. He has been at George Wash<strong>in</strong>gton University s<strong>in</strong>ce 1970, and<br />

previously taught at <strong>The</strong> Catholic University of America. He is also a faculty<br />

member of <strong>the</strong> International Space University. He is <strong>the</strong> author and editor<br />

of numerous books and articles on space policy and space history. He is an<br />

elected member of <strong>the</strong> International Academy of Astronautics and a former<br />

member of <strong>the</strong> board of <strong>The</strong> Planetary Society. He is a member of <strong>the</strong><br />

NASA Advisory Council and served dur<strong>in</strong>g 2003 on <strong>the</strong> Columbia Accident<br />

Investigation Board. Dr. Logsdon has lectured and spoken to a wide variety<br />

of audiences at professional meet<strong>in</strong>gs, colleges and universities, <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />

conferences, and o<strong>the</strong>r sett<strong>in</strong>gs, and has testified before Congress on numerous<br />

occasions. He is frequently consulted by <strong>the</strong> electronic and pr<strong>in</strong>t media for<br />

his views on various space issues. He has twice been a Fellow at <strong>the</strong> Woodrow<br />

Wilson International Center for Scholars and was <strong>the</strong> first holder of <strong>the</strong> Chair<br />

<strong>in</strong> Space History of <strong>the</strong> National Air and Space Museum. He is a Fellow of<br />

<strong>the</strong> American Association for <strong>the</strong> Advancement of Science and <strong>the</strong> American<br />

Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
