the police brutality lawsuit<br />

brought by Rodney G. King, the<br />

Los Angeles City Council voted<br />

Tuesday to guarantee him at least<br />

$1.75 million, but King's attorney<br />

blasted the proposal and vowed to<br />

take the civil case to trial.<br />

After meeting in closed-door<br />

session for nearly an hour, the<br />

council rejected an earlier $5.9-<br />

milliort settlement sought by King.<br />

to award him a lump sum of I<br />

i $250,000 and establish an invest- .<br />

1 ment fund that would pay him<br />

; $75,000 annually for the rest of his ,<br />

i Should he die early, the heirs of<br />
