Four of the 21 Los Angeles<br />

police <strong>officers</strong> who were at the<br />

scene of the Rodney King -beat­<br />

unfit to be interviewed by police<br />

investigators, authorities said<br />

Tuesday.<br />

"<strong>The</strong>re are four <strong>officers</strong> claiming<br />

'stay-away' order from a doctor<br />

He declined to identify which<br />

of the <strong>officers</strong> had obtained the<br />

orders.<br />

<strong>The</strong> 21 <strong>officers</strong> who were at<br />

the scene of the King beating include<br />

four who have been<br />

charged with assault - Sgt. Stacey<br />

Koon and Officers Lawrence<br />

Powell, <strong>The</strong>odore Briseno and<br />

Timothy Wind.<br />

Darryl Mounger, an attorney<br />

, who represents Koon, said in an<br />

interview -Tuesday that Koon<br />

does not have any health problems<br />

and did not obtain a<br />

health-related "s.tay-away."<br />

said none of her clients had obtained<br />

the stay-away orders.<br />

Marchant said the remaining<br />

officer, whom she didn't iden­<br />

·tify, has a pre-existing bloo&<br />

pressure problem and has obtained<br />

an order not to be interviewed.<br />

Such an order can be the first<br />

step in seeking stress-related disability,<br />

internal affairs officials<br />

-said.
