Local Girl Scout Troop Earns Prestigious Silver Award
for their work with the San Diego Humane Society
It took ten dedicated Girl Scout
Cadettes, three sewing moms, two
amazing Troop Leaders, and two long
years to create one of the largest single
donations the San Diego Humane Society
has ever seen from a group of Girl Scouts
in all of its 125 years of service.
In order to be a candidate for one of
the most prestigious community service
awards within the Girl Scouts, Girl
Scout Troop 3959 constructed a plan
they could dedicate themselves to for the
next two years.
This plan had two very distinct
objectives. The first was to construct a
hanging, handmade quilt to educate and
inspire the community to help animals in
need. The second objective was to have
individual donation drives within their
neighborhoods to benefit the San Diego
Humane Society.
Each Cadette logged over 60 hours
in their neighborhood donation drives
which resulted in mountains of pet
supplies flooding the Humane Society’s
hallways. After dropping off this huge
donation of pet goods, gift cards, and
over $600 in donations, the girls received
a special behind-the-scenes tour of the
Humane Society.
Humane Society staff members later
attended Troop 3959’s Silver Award
ceremony at the end of May and the
staff were presented with a beautiful
handmade quilt. Over the course of two
years, the girls had met once a month
with the three sewing moms, for six
hours of instruction each, to learn how
to quilt. It was also during this time that
the girls designed and sewed together
each of their own swatches. To see this

Thank you Troop 3959 for all of your
hard work, dedication, and support. The
animals and staff at the Humane Society
could not be happier or more impressed
by such a stellar group of young women.
