Humane Society’s Fur Ball Sets the Stage for Love
When Diane Pierce won the
raffle for the Westminster
Dog Show Package at last
year’s Fur Ball, she never thought that
her trip to New York would change her
life forever.
Diane and her boyfriend, Jason
Severson, were invited to attend the
Humane Society’s annual Fur Ball gala
by John E. Parker, a long time supporter
of the Humane Society and past Fur
Ball honoree. During the event, Diane
won tickets to see the Westminster Dog
Show in New York City and Jason knew
it would be the perfect place to propose
to Diane.
Jason planned the weeklong trip
to New York City meticulously, with
dinner reservations to the most exclusive
restaurants and tickets to the hottest
Broadway musicals. The one thing
he didn’t plan on was the weather. A
blizzard hit New York City that
Valentine’s Day weekend with over
26-inches of snow. Still, that didn’t stop
his plans of proposing to Diane in the
middle of Central Park at a bench in
front of “The Pond” on that beautiful,
snowy February 14 th .
He gave Diane two presents that
afternoon and instructed her to open the
larger present first, a book titled “The
Right Dog For You.” The second present
was also a book; a miniature book in the
shape of a small house titled “Home.” As
she opened the mini-book, carved within
the pages was a beautiful diamond
engagement ring. At that moment,
Jason got down on one knee and said,
“Diane, I want to adopt a dog, choose a
home, and build a future with you. Will
you marry me?”
Diane and Jason are presently
planning the details of their upcoming
Jason and Diane moments after Jason proposed in
Central Park.
nuptials and the San Diego Humane
Society and SPCA feels honored to have
been just a small part of their beautiful
love story and wishes them the best in
their future together.
