s Animal Adventure Camp Brings Kids
and Animals Together
The San Diego Humane Society’s summer Animal
Adventure Camp, held July 9 - August 17, 2007 was
a HOWL-ing good time for more than 500 animalloving
kids. Children ages five to 13 learned about
companion animals and gained compassion for all
living things through interactions with a variety of
animals, including dogs, kittens, rabbits, guinea pigs,
rats, reptiles and even a goat, during the annual weeklong
summer day camp held at the Humane Society.

Possible
In May 2007 San Diego Humane Society staff
traveled to New Orleans to help the Louisiana SPCA
open their new shelter. The organization is starting
to get back on its “paws” after their operations were
devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Investigations Department Saves Two Dozen
Cats from Extreme Heat
In July 2007 the San Diego Humane Society’s Investigations
Department seized 24 cats being housed in an outdoor dog run.
With a recorded temperature of 108 degrees at the time of
seizure, the cats exhibited signs of extreme heat exposure.
The cats were transported to the Humane Society to receive
medical treatment. Two weeks later an administrative hearing
was held to determine if the Humane Officers were justified in
the seizure of the cats and the seizure was upheld. At the
hearing the cat’s owner decided it would be best to relinquish
the cats to the Humane Society. At press time the cats were
being prepared for adoption into new, loving homes.
