thank and recognize volunteers for their hard work and
dedication to the Humane Society. For the second year in
s Healing with H 2 O
When Humane Officers brought in a four-month-old Labrador
Retriever mix named Chocolate with a fractured elbow that
had been left untreated, Humane Society veterinarians knew
it would take more than surgery to help Chocolate regain use
of her front leg. Even after a specialized orthopedic surgery to
repair the bones in her elbow, Chocolate still needed therapy to
stretch ligaments and tendons that had tightened after weeks of
holding up her hurt paw. Thanks to Trish Penick of Cutting Edge
K9 Rehab, Chocolate got the chance to swim her way to better
mobility. Now, Chocolate has found a forever home with pet
parents who are committed to making her strong again.
Pet-Assisted Therapy Hits the Books!
On July 26, 2007 the San Diego Humane Society’s Pet-
Assisted Therapy program participated in the first “Tales for
Tails” program at the Rancho Penasquitos Branch Library. The
P-AT Program brought rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and a dog to
the one-hour reading program for children grades one through
six. The children interacted with the animals and also read
to them as a way to improve their reading skills. The P-AT
program will be participating in the program on the fourth
Thursday of each month for the next year.
