Third “Policy meets Research” Workshop on Sustainable Mobility
Szentendre/Hungary 19/20 April 2012
Direction from Budapest by Car
Szentendre is a 15-minute drive from Budapest on highway No. 11. Once in Szentendre, the road
named Duna Korzo leads straight to the REC. A sign on the right side of the road indicates the REC.
Transfers from the airport and rail stations to Szentendre hotels
Getting to Szentendre by public transport from the airport or the railway station is rather
complicated and takes relatively long time (3 hours from the airport and 2 from the railway station).
The easiest way is to opt for the transfers that the REC will arrange from and to the airport / rail
stations by taxi cabs (the trip takes approximately 50 and 40 minutes respectively). A driver will wait
for you with your name. To save money and fuel, whenever possible we shall group passengers
which may mean a little waiting time for the others. Transfer arrangements will be confirmed after
the travel itineraries are finalized. The schedule for the transfers back to Budapest will be made
available during the meeting.
Rate: Airport – Szentendre: HuF 10,000 payable on the spot
Rail Station – Szentendre: HuF 6,500 payable on the spot
Other means of transport to get from the airport or Budapest center to Szentendre:
By taxi
The journey from the airport to Budapest will cost up to 5,000 HUF; directly to the REC will cost up to
12,000 HUF with the official taxi company Főtaxi (Tel: +36 1 222-2222).
By bus
Budapest Airport is relatively well accessible also by Public Transportation means. Passengers are
taken by a direct bus service from (and between) Terminals 1 and 2, called the Bus 200E to Kőbánya-
Kispest metro terminal (blue line). By the 'blue’ (3) Metro you can reach Deák Ferenc Square (blue,
yellow, red metro stop) in the City in 20 minutes.
Bus 93 operates from Terminal 1 to Kőbánya-Kispest Metro Station (blue line). For more information
about the public transportation of Budapest and the timetable of buses, see www.bkv.hu.
By train
Since July of 2007 passengers can easily reach Ferihegy Terminal 1 from the Western Railway Station
(Nyugati) in Budapest. From the airport there are 60 trains on weekdays and 45 at weekends while
from the city centre to the airport there are 51 trains during weekdays and at weekends 38 trains.
Within less than half an hour you can be at the airport for 300 HUF. In order to connect to suburban
train line from Nyugati train station you should take the blue metro line to Deak Ferenc Square and
then change to red metro line to Batthyany square.
Arriving travelers can buy their tickets at Tourinform at Terminal 1 from 09.00 to 22.00 or at platform
B at the railway station from the ticket vending machine.
The two platforms of the railway station are connected to the Airport Terminal with a pedestrian
footbridge equipped with lifts above the clearway. A short pedestrian path of just 200 meters takes
the passengers from the terminal to the railway station.
Travelers who would like to get to 2A or 2B terminals can travel by bus 200E from there.
You can find the train schedule at the website of MÁV, the Hungarian railway company.
